The new German Port Museum
With the new German Port Museum, the international museums landscape will be gaining a prestigious museum for the commercial and economic history of Germany’s largest port. In addition to covering the development of the port, the museum will also deal with questions of globalization and worldwide trade.
The Barque Peking
The legendary P-Liner “Peking” represents an important era of merchant shipping and visitors will be able to enjoy it as a museum ship after the transfer from New York City and its restoration. This unique ensemble gives the Historic Museums Hamburg yet another identification point for maritime Hamburg and for the history of Germany as a trading nation.
Sharon Ament, Director of the Museum of London Docklands
“If you get your strategy right, it’s like a life-jacket. You can jump into the sea of museum development and you’ll still float. That’s my take-home message.”
